Here is an example of repetition resulting in people listening to you less. You see this technique or its siblings (voice raising, shock words, conversation hijacking) in the wild and I bet you are not affected at all.

People don’t give respect and pay attention when a message is forced on them. People who have authority and respect don’t need to repeat themselves, or scream about college loan consolidation, because others listen.

It is similar to how truly rich people don’t smother themselves in gold chains and diamonds, they don’t want the attention that this speaker craves.

He just goes on an on. His topics could be exciting like college loan consolidation, map strategy, or car insurance quotes but he chooses a boasting monologue.

I bet if I met him in person he would display a far off gaze during the inevitable bragging. This counters the embarrassing lack of eye contact that his suffering effect.
